RARE STAGLIN
The 2001 vintage is one where legendary wines were produced. This 2001 Staglin Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is such a wine. The vintage was earmarked by abundant heat in May and June followed by a cooler than normal July and August. This cooling trend gave the red grapes plenty of hang time and the wine shows it. There is a deep black color with ripe aromas of black cherry and plum. The flavors are mushroom, blueberry and distinctive caramel from the 100% new French oak barrels. The finish lingers with hints of chocolate, ripe plum and tobacco. The tannins are supple and silky with a lingering flavor of black tea. The wine is youthful and friendly now and should continue to develop beautifully for 10-15 years.

MONDAVI EXPERIENCE
Continuum is the next-generation of Tim and Marcia Mondavi doing what California wine's first family does best: innovating and making excellent wine. Continuum is a Left Bank style Bordeaux blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery's higher elevation Pritchard Hill estate in Oakville. Red plum and boysenberry fruit rest on the nose and palate beautifully. There are also espresso bean, cocoa nib and pencil lead flavors that add lift and complexity and a nice balancing acidity and ripe, full tannins.
"A remarkable effort, offering riveting, expressive aromas of mocha, currant, mineral, herb, black licorice, tar and pebble, this is intense, structured, balanced, nuanced and firm, finishing with a gutsy, richness and sophistication. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot." Wine Spectator

Chuck Wagner’s Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is the stuff that California legends are made of. With its dark purple color, sweet cassis compote flavors and lush, silky texture, this wine absolutely explodes in the mouth with incredible richness and depth. A RARE IMPERIAL OF 2002 CHATEAU LATOUR
“The wine of the vintage? There are only 10,000 cases of this extraordinarily rich, dense 2002 that is as powerful as the 2003 (even the alcohol levels are nearly the same, 12.85%). It is dark ruby/purple to the rim, with notes of English walnuts, crushed rocks, black currants, and forest floor, dense, full-bodied, and opulent, yet classic with spectacular aromatics, marvelous purity, and a full-bodied finish that lasts just over 50+ seconds. Huge richness and the sweetness of the tannins are somewhat deceptive as this wine seems set for a long life. Administrator Frederic Engerer seems to be more pleased with what Latour achieved in 2002 than in any other recent vintage. Hats off to him for an extraordinary accomplishment in a vintage that wouldn’t have been expected to produce the raw materials to achieve something at this level of quality.” Robert M. Parker

It took thousands to crown Louis XIII King of France. More than four centuries later, a single bottle of the cognac that bears his name still requires nearly 10,000 individuals to produce.

Each hand-crafted Baccarat crystal decanter of Louis XIII contains a blend of 1,200 Cognacs, ranging in age from 40 to 100 years old and requiring the combined expertise of three generations of Cellar Masters. A solid gold collar and signature fleur-de-lys crystal stopper adorn every decanter. Its Baroque-style glass and design recall the grandeur of the Baroque era of King Louis XIII, while its noble taste pleases palates the world over today.

MANDES MANDATE I
When PBWA Chairman, Ted Mandes, talks you should listen. For years now, he’s been advising that one of the greatest undiscovered treasures in the wine world is Ed and Trish Snider’s Beau Vigne. Well, let’s say the cat’s out of the bag and, unless you were hatched on another planet, you now know all about these fantastic wines. In fact, when none other than Robert Parker tasted them, he was just floored. “This is one of my favorite unheralded producers in Napa Valley. The wines have off-the-charts richness, great balance, and the potential (at least in the case of the Juliet and the Reserve) to be aged for 20 or more years. There is a striking purity and intensity to these wines that merits serious attention. They all come from a small nine-acre vineyard in the Stags Leap appellation.”
“There is a purity and richness to this bottling I absolutely love. The deep red color is fantastic and is ever so inviting. This is the widest mélange of fruit and character in the profound Beau Vigne lineup. This wine lives up to its position of a Reserve. The nose begins as brooding of black fruit but shortly builds to include lively mountain terroir. What is “mountain terroir?” It is the racy and complex array of red fruit that shows itself in higher elevations. In support of the fruit is warmth from barrel vanillin, espresso ice cream and biscotti center. The notes of confection on the nose are amazing. The palate drinks of youth with absolute potential. Driven by dried herbs, forest and tobacco notes, black berry and black stone fruit surface right through to the front of the palate. The balance of this wine sits high. In its youth, it is nervy and complex with a huge future ahead. The tannins of this mountain based cabernet could use a decade to yield. The day that time comes, there will be bliss. But for those who consume this wine at a young age, you will definitely not be disappointed. Cellared well, this wine should survive and drink well into its late teens or even twenties (+2028). 100% Cabernet Sauvignon” Kirk Venge, Beau Vigne

A UNIQUE VISIT TO PETER MICHAEL WINERY
In 1982, Sir Peter Michael established the Peter Michael Winery on a square mile of rocky volcanic ridges that form the western face of Mount St. Helena in Sonoma County. From the beginning, the wine growing philosophy was modeled on the French tradition infused with a few modern influences: One, the vineyard terroir would be the single most important feature. Two, the wines would be elegant rather than overstated. Three, there would be a hundred-year commitment to the development of a great estate. Given this commitment to the product, only a limited quantity will ever be made.

SWITCHBACK RIDGE
Unless you’d rather wither on a five year waiting list vine behind 3,000 other Switchback-deprived Cabernet lovers, here’s an opportunity to not only be taken on a private limo, EZ Pass ride right up to the front of the priority “short” list, but to also have some of their amazing wines sent directly to your door for the trip, and in rare bottles you’ve never seen before, like Magnums and a rare Six-Liter bottle. Switchback Ridge fruit produces intensely flavored wines with explosive, palate-coating fruit and is sourced exclusively from the Peterson Family Vineyard in Calistoga. The property has been in the Peterson family since 1914 and encompasses nearly 100 acres located at the mouth of Dutch Henry Canyon. For over 75 years the property was primarily maintained as a farm and plum orchard, with vines intermingled amongst the trees. In 1990, the orchards were replanted to vineyard, where there are currently 19 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Syrah vines, in addition to a three acre 50+ year old Petite Syrah block that John Peterson helped plant as a child. Kelly Peterson manages the estate now and has turned it into one of the most well regarded in all of Napa Valley.
Bob Foley is the wine maker, and what a wine maker he is. He began his career in 1977, working at a number of highly regarded Napa Valley wineries including Pride Mountain Vineyards, where he spent 15 years as the founding winemaker. Today he continues to focus on his own Robert Foley Wines in addition to Hourglass and, of course, Switchback Ridge.

MUSIC TO YOUR EARS AND TO YOUR PALATE
Arietta Red Wine Variation One 2006
The patience to leave Arietta’s Syrah on the vine until the end of October was a key factor in the creation of the richest, most harmonious Arietta Red Wine Variation One ever produced. The Arietta Red Wine Variation One 2006 is a generous, complex and exciting wine, unique in its blend and flavor profile, and not to be missed. Critic Stephen Tanzer writes: "Wild aromas of mocha, graphite and game, with a complicating note of roasted nuts. Sweet, plush and seamless, but with excellent energy to the layered black fruit flavors. This comes across as remarkably vibrant for a wine with a pH of 3.9. Finishes with building but very fine tannins and excellent length."
Arietta Red Wine H Block Hudson Vineyards 2006
The majestic 2006 Arietta H Block reverts to its typical blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot. The breadth and ripe fruit of the wine will make it relatively flattering to drink while young, but tremendous stuffing and depth will promote development in the bottle for fifteen years, at least. Critic Stephen Tanzer notes: "Good deep ruby. Black raspberry, mocha and menthol on the nose. Sweet, creamy and densely packed, with rather wild flavors of raspberry, mocha, game and tobacco. Structured, backward wine with terrific length. The building tannins show full ripeness."

RARE RUDD
“A monumental wine in the making, the 2007 Proprietary Red Oakville Estate (1,370 cases composed of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot) displays earthy, blackberry, and black currant fruit notes intermixed with espresso roast, camphor, acacia flowers, and graphite. This stunningly fragrant, full-bodied red hits the palate with a cascade of lavish fruit as well as admirably integrated acidity, alcohol, tannin, and wood. Readers will notice new, elegant labels reflecting proprietor Leslie Rudd's holy grail quest to make wines that compete with the finest in the tenderloin of Napa's Cabernet country, the Oakville Corridor. As I stated last year, Rudd has the superstars of viticulture and winemaking consulting, David Abreu and Michel Rolland respectively, working with the talented Bill Vyenielo, the viticultural manager who was formerly at Peter Michael, and new winemakers, Rebekah Wineburg and Pat Sullivan, the brother of Mike Sullivan who did such great things at Hartford Court. Their influence is especially noticeable with the final blends of the 2006 reds and the making of the 2007s.” Robert M. Parker

FIVE-COURSE DINNER IN YOUR HOME FOR 10 PREPARED BY CHEF CLAY CONLEY
The South Florida Rising Star Chef Award 2008 winner, Clay Conley, has already logged in two decades of experience in all aspects of the restaurant industry. Conley started washing dishes at age 13 and fell in love with the atmosphere of the kitchen; he eventually found his way into Todd English’s kitchen and it was all up (and around the world) from there.
During his 10 years with the Olives Group, Conley worked in Boston, Washington, DC, Las Vegas, and Tokyo, eventually becoming the culinary director for all 18 of English’s restaurants at age 29. In 2005, he moved to the Mandarin Oriental in Miami and took over Azul, the hotel’s elegant, waterfront fine dining restaurant, where he brought the ingredients and techniques of his global experience together in his eclectic menu. Chef Conley draws culinary influences from his surroundings (an Indian exchange student living with him inspired his yogurt-marinated swordfish) and nearly every dish has a story behind it.
Invite nine of your friends over for dinner without even turning on the oven yourself! Chef Clay Conley will come to your home and cook a five-course meal. He’ll have to leave your kitchen eventually, but your palate will never be the same.

THE LOUIS XIII CONNOISSEUR’S JOURNEY
Here’s an absolutely fantastic interactive visit for two at Rémy Martin in the heart of Cognac, France.
“A great experience for any Cognac (or wine lover) that began with a private tour of the cellars of Remy Martin, a lesson in distillation, then a tasting of the selection of Remy Martin Cognacs paired with bites from their in-house chef. The visit continued with a barrel tasting of Louis XIII with Deputy Cellar Master, Baptiste Loiseau. After the tour they opened the Remy shop for us so that we could buy hard to find cognacs that aren't available in the US. The highlight was the candlelit dinner in the private distillery next to the owner of Remy Martin's chateau prepared by the chef just for us accompanied by fantastic wines from the cellar and capped off with what else...Louis XIII.” Jill Sloane, recipient of last year’s lot

To Kirk’s credit, he has polished his own skill set and reputation as one of the finest wine makers in the Napa Valley. Beau Vigne is very excited about their new relationship with Kirk.
The Sniders bought the property in 2002 and named the ranch Stags Ridge Vineyard, a vista overlooking Stags Leap. Stags Ridge is now over eight acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and one acre of Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot (Trish's Garden). Stags Ridge Vineyard sits at about 1,350 feet altitude in the Atlas Peak appellation on the eastern edge of Napa. Stag’s Ridge has become known as a unique vineyard recognized in the valley as a very special place.

TUSCAN ROMANCE V.I.P. VISIT AND STAY FOR TWO AT CASTELLO BANFI
Castello Banfi is a rarity among Italian wine estates, not just because of its size (some 7,100 acres, of which around 2,400 are planted with vines), its composition of single vineyards, or its state-of-the-art winery, but because it was started from scratch less than 20 years ago. A medieval castle towering above mountainous forests and lush, rolling vineyards expresses the speechless poetry of Montalcino, and endows Castello Banfi's wines with more than a millennium of history and romance. For countless thousands of visitors the castle offers a museum of wine and glass dedicated to Banfi's founder, Giovanni F. Mariani. Central to the property is a medieval castle meticulously restored as a hospitality center, hosting visitors at the Taverna Banfi for lunches and dinners of traditional local dishes, and its enoteca-cum-wine bar serving tasting plates of artisan regional breads, cheeses and salumi to pair with a selection of estate wines by the glass. For those wishing to linger and be nurtured by our Tuscan hospitality, a limited number of luxury rooms and suites are available at Castello Banfi – Il Borgo, a hillside hamlet nestled alongside the castle keep.

REALLY RARE RUDD
Rudd winery was established in 1996, when Leslie Rudd purchased the 54-acre estate in Oakville. Since the purchase, Mr. Rudd has made extensive renovations to the property, to include a complete replanting of the vineyards to close-spaced, red Bordeaux varietals and the expansion and renovation of the winery, including custom-designed tanks and a gentle, gravity-flow system. In addition, 22,000 square feet of caves have been dug below the winery to provide ideal aging conditions. In April 2002, Charles Thomas joined the Rudd team as Director of Vineyards and Winemaking. Charles brings to Rudd over 25 years of winemaking and vineyard experience.
“The flagship wine, the 2007 Proprietary Red from Oakville is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. A prodigious effort, it boasts a dense purple color along with gorgeously complex aromatics reminiscent of a hypothetical blend of a first-growth Pauillac and a top Graves. Notes of burning embers, forest floor, creme de cassis, blackberries, espresso, and a hint of chocolate soar from the glass of this full-bodied, well-delineated, structured wine with tremendous depth and texture. This awesome red is a future legend in the making. Give it 4-5 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 30-35 years.” Robert M. Parker

IN VOGUE VOGÜÉ
Here is a collection of Comte de Vogüé magnums we guarantee will put some lead in your cellar pencil:
“The medium to dark ruby-colored 2002 Chambolle-Musigny reveals dark cherry aromas as well as a medium-bodied, satin-textured personality. Armed with awesome depth, it is expansive, powerful, yet refined and well-structured. Mocha-laced jammy black fruits can be found throughout its expressive character as well as in its long, sweet, velvety finish.” Robert M. Parker
“Magnificent aromas of red and black cherries are found in the nose of the 2003 Chambolle-Musigny. Medium-bodied and satin-textured on the attack, it unleashes sweet red cherries, plums, and blueberries before displaying some dryness in its tannin-packed finish that will require patience.” Robert M. Parker
“The expressive and high-toned nose is quite ripe with absolutely no trace of herb or forest floor, running instead to ripe raspberry and cherry coulis and this sense of concentrated fruit essence continues onto the delicious, rich, complex and vibrant flavors that culminate in an energetic, fresh and driving finish. This is suffused by minerality and this coupled with the superb detail confers a precise but not austere character to the flavors and finish. A strikingly good effort for the vintage that is worth a look.” Allen Meadows

Marie-Andrée Mugneret described 2005 as a "vintage where I have never seen such good fruit. The summer wasn't especially hot but there was really good luminosity, which contributes to the superb acid/fruit balance.”
“If you're for whatever reason not familiar with the Mugneret wines, you owe it to yourself to get acquainted, even with the Bourgogne as it is consistently one of the very best in all of Burgundy.” Allen Meadows

POTENT POTEL
The Charmes-Chambertin of Nicolas Potel is truly some of the very best in all of Burgundy. It is always a richly endowed and silky wine with a velvety texture that more than literally just melts in the mouth.
“Nicolas Potel consistently favors promoting ripeness at low potential alcohol and consistently eschews chaptalization. He is also a fan of freshness and clarity in Pinot, while maintaining notably low levels of sulfur.” Robert M. Parker
